The 3rd Macao Encounter – Arts and Culture Festival between China and Portuguese Speaking Countries will take place from November 11 to December 12 and will include a film festival, cultural lectures and the favorite local Lusofonia festival.

The month-long festival will include the Festival of Portuguese-Speaking Studies and Films, the annual art exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as traditional music and dance performances in the community, activities for the 100th anniversary of the Taipa Houses and the series of cultural conferences on “One Belt, One Road” – Samba and dance.

The film festival will present 30 Chinese and Portuguese-speaking films under the theme “Gourmets of Cinema”, while the annual art exhibition comprising two exhibitions “Symbiose” and “Embrace in Diversity” showcases contemporary works by artists from Macau, the region of the Grande Baie and Portuguese speaking country.

Six Portuguese-speaking groups from Macau and the Song and Dance Group from Fujian Province will perform music and dance performances, while guided tours will be part of the 100th anniversary activities of the Taipa Houses, five residences built in 1921 for children. officials of the territory. and transformed into a museum site in 1999.

African feminist literature and Brazilian literature in the world will be the focus of two colloquia, in the series of cultural conferences.

Portuguese-speaking music, crafts and cuisine will once again be in the spotlight, from December 10 to 12 during the 24th Lusofonia Festival.

The first edition of the Lusofonia Festival was held in June 1998, with the main objective of honoring the Portuguese-speaking communities of Macau u for their contribution to the development of the city.

This year, the Taipa Houses will welcome ten cultural exhibitors from Portuguese-speaking communities residing in Macao: Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Goa, Damão and Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, East Timor, as well as than the local community.

During the three days of the Festival, different stands of Macau’s Portuguese-speaking communities from ten countries and regions will be set up, presenting traditional music, arts and crafts, traditional costumes, gastronomy and tourist information from their countries or regions. .

Over the three days of the Festival, around 30 local Portuguese-speaking arts groups and one from mainland China will perform different styles of music and dance on the main stage of the Taipa Houses Amphitheater and soft music on the installed stage. in Largo do Carmo.

The Festival’s temporary restaurant, located in the municipal garden of Taipa, will serve grills and typical Portuguese specialties for lunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, during the three-day dinner of the Festival, at the Largo do Carmo, specialties from the different participating countries or regions will be served. During the event, next to the entrance to the Taipa houses, there will also be a temporary kiosk that will serve typical Portuguese snacks and drinks.

In previous years, the Lusofonia festival had been held on its own in October, a format and date that could be restored if pandemic conditions improve next year.

The full budget for the Macao Meeting – Arts and Culture Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking countries will amount to MOP 8.9 million.
