JAMMU, 4th May: A virtual meeting of UT Bamboo Mission (UT BM) under the National Bamboo Mission (NBM) was held here today under the chairmanship of KK Sharma, Director Agriculture Jammu (Mission Director National Bamboo Mission ) here at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo, to discuss the proposed annual action plan for the 2022-23 financial year.
The meeting was convened on the instruction of the principal secretary of the agricultural production department JK UT.
Officers from various departments, including Mohinder Gupta, Regional Director of the J&K Forestry Department; Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, Kashmir Agriculture Director; Dr. LM Gupta (Prof. & Head of Agro-forestry Deptt.) SKUAST- Jammu; Dr Prevez Ahmed Sofi (Associate Professor Agroforestry) SKUAST – Kashmir; Mega Baogia (Dy Dir Plg & Statics) Jammu Handicraft & Loom and Gopal Dass (AD Plg) J&K Forestry Department attended the meeting.
Initially, the Mission Director-NBM informed the participants that an action plan to the tune of Rs 10 crore has been proposed for the financial year 2022-23 under the National Bamboo Mission with regard to JKUT.
The meeting discussed in detail the various activities proposed under the action plan of the National Bamboo Mission, including the establishment of nurseries, the planting of blocks, the planting of high density bamboo, the establishment of a unit bamboo shoot processing units, incense stick manufacturing units, establishment of tissue culture laboratories and skills development programs. etc
Earlier, the action plan was also discussed in a preliminary meeting held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary of Agricultural Production Department JK UT on 11th April 2022 at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu where some changes were suggested.
The mission director also informed the participants that the impetus will be on planting different commercial varieties of bamboo including Dendrocalamousstrictus, Bambusa pallida, Dendrocalamoushamiltonii, Bambusabalcooa, Bambusatulda, etc. having a range of commercial utility and adaptability to varying altitudes at J&K UT.
The proposed annual action plans of the various departments amounting to Rs 10 crore for the financial year 2022-23 have been agreed in full with slight modification for subsequent approval by the UT-level executive committee.
