Obituary: Janet Marie (Williams) Gilbert

Janet Marie (Williams) Gilbert

SCARBOROUGH – Janet Marie (Williams) Gilbert of Scarborough, died unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland on the morning of Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the age of 73.

Janet was born in April 1948 in Portland, to Philip Thomas and Arline Parker Williams. She grew up in Cape Elizabeth with her four brothers, Thomas, Stephen, Robert and Neil. As a young woman, Janet studied in the X-ray Technician program at Maine Medical Center, received her certificate in 1967, and began her career at Maine Medical Center. She subsequently worked at Spurwink Medical Center in Cape Elizabeth until her retirement.

In 1967 Janet met Stanley Gilbert, who had just returned from military service. They married in the summer of 1968, moved to South Portland, had three children, Kevin, Krista and Eric, and enjoyed life with family and friends who were like family there for 50 years. . After their retirement, Janet and Stan moved to Scarborough and celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last August.

She lived a peaceful and happy life, loving her children and family without limits. More than once, she could be found enjoying a sip or four of coffee and skim milk brandy, solving the world’s problems at her dear “round table” or watching sunset in family camps on New Meadow’s River and Little Sebago Lake. As family was Janet’s most beloved pastime, she spent 364 days each year waiting for the annual Labor Day family reunion that had lasted for over 40 years, where she feverishly devoted herself to her mission of collecting money. lobster orders money down to the penny. Her greatest pride were her children and three grandchildren, Brannon, Anna and Charlie, whom she spent countless hours lugging around, watching the cold, rainy, or sweltering sports field, and in recent years, to send SMS. The last gift she received a few days ago over Christmas was the often chaotically-created but still-awaited sixteenth annual canvas print of her grandchildren, which hung just the day before she passed away. Janet was an avid headlight collector – perfectly suited, as her own light shone and guided silently without attracting attention.

Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Stanley Morrill Gilbert of Scarborough; his son Kevin Gilbert, his wife Karyn and their son Brannon of Gray; son Eric Gilbert, wife Jami, their daughter Anna and son Charlie of Gray; Brother Stephen Williams and wife Sharon of Gorham, sister-in-law Judy Williams of Connecticut, sister-in-law Jean Williams of Scarborough, Brother Neil Williams and wife Sally of Cumberland and Florida; and a long list of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and close friends whom she treated like her own children and family.

Janet is predeceased by her daughter, Krista Marie; his older brother Thomas Williams and his younger brother, Robert Williams; his niece and angel Raelyn Williams Reny; and his parents, Philip and Arline Williams.
