Steph Curry sets NBA career record for 3 points

“It’s a rush of adrenaline every time,” said Chelsie Schweers, 32, who set the career record 3 points among Division III players during her career at Christopher Newport University. Newport News, Virginia. “There’s nothing quite like dumping a backstroke. It’s my favorite thing on Earth.

Schweers, who made 415 3-points to Christopher Newport while shooting 46.1% from depth, considered Curry his favorite player since becoming an intermediate college star at Davidson. At 5ft 7in, Schweers said she could relate to Curry as they were both relatively undersized. And they could both shoot.

“He brings so much joy,” said Schweers, who has spent the past 10 years playing abroad, most recently in Portugal.

In 2004, before his final year of high school, John Grotberg paid a recruiting visit to Davidson. But after sustaining a knee injury, Grotberg opted to go the Division III path and enrolled at Grinnell College in Iowa. It turned out for the best: Grotberg ended up scoring more than 3 points than any male player in NCAA history, and Davidson’s backcourt would have been crowded.

“Steph was a year behind me,” said Grotberg.

Grotberg, 34, continued to perform in Europe before studying medicine at Yale and is now a doctor in St. Louis. Now more than ever, Grotberg said, he appreciates his tangential connection to Curry, citing the 3-point record he still holds, he said, only because Curry left Davidson a year earlier for the NBA

Grotberg continues to marvel, along with countless other basketball fans, at how Curry transformed the game by stretching the field beyond comprehension. For a shooter, this is the stuff of dreams.

“You go into this rehearsal where your body knows what to do,” said Grotberg, “and all you have to do is find the space to do it.”
